Valtra, Middle East and North Africa

A founder's record, not a company project. Employed by Valtra Inc. as Regional Sales & Marketing Manager, Maysam Tehrani built its Middle East and North Africa network from zero to more than 350 locations in three years.

Project Overview

This case is our founder's own record, from his years employed by Valtra Inc., the Finnish tractor maker, as Regional Sales & Marketing Manager for the Middle East and North Africa. It sits here because it is the clearest picture of how we approach a market, and because an agricultural manufacturer should know exactly who it is talking to.

Valtra started with no network in the region. High-specification tractors were new there, and the independent dealers and workshops already sold and serviced other makes. The work was bringing those operators, and the groups behind them, into the network at speed.

Most of the 350+ locations were never meant to sell tractors. A farmer will not buy one unless he knows it can be repaired close by, because downtime at harvest is counted in lost crop. So the network was built as service and parts coverage, with roughly 15 to 20 showrooms carrying the sales. That coverage is what made more than 1,000 tractor sales possible.

The Strategic Edge

In agriculture, the parts counter sells the tractor. Build the service network first, and the showroom follows.

Branding Milestones

Network built from zero to 350+ locations in three years, most of them service, repair and parts points.

1,000+ tractors sold, representing more than €40M in equipment.

$1.5M in spare parts revenue, proof that the service network was being used.

80+ technical and commercial specialists trained, some certified at the factory in Finland.

The same parts-first approach is what we now bring to agricultural manufacturers entering Canada.
